It was not long after becoming a resident that we noticed my Mom’s spirit and well-being change for the better. The home provides her with social interaction, activities, and an overall healthy environment.
The several years she has been at Blackburn have been the happiest times for her over the past ten years. The Blackburn Home has also been a blessing for my mental well-being as I no longer have to check in on her daily, ask if she is eating well, and manage her health needs from across the state.
I am so grateful to have found a place for her to live and a caring community for her to join. We are extremely fortunate to have a facility like the Blackburn Home that can provide this unique care to our senior citizens.
My mother lived there for three wonderful years, and from the very first minute, she felt completely at home. The countless activities, the outstanding homemade food, and the genuine closeness to both staff and residents make Blackburn Home an exceptional place to live.
They took such wonderful care of my mom, and knowing she was happy there brought us great comfort. Our family has a long history with Blackburn Home. My grandfather, James Swisher, and my mother, Margaret Harker, were both residents and were very happy with everything the Blackburn Home provided for them.

The Blackburn Home is not just a beautiful historic building but also truly a home. A home full of staff who genuinely care about the residents and treat them like their own family.
The care is personal, kind and accommodating to each resident’s needs. I know my Mom was reluctant to move from her home and give up her independence, but within a very short time, she was calling The Blackburn Home, her home. From daily activities and many fun events and outings, to personalized birthday meals and holiday parties, Mom was always busy. She loved her new home and I, along with my siblings, was comforted knowing that she was happy, safe and well cared for in her new home.
Although this was a transition for Mom this was also a difficult transition for us and Michelle and the staff supported us all along the way as well. Mom has since passed but Michelle and the staff at The Blackburn Home will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Over the years, I’ve come to see that the Blackburn Home is so much more than just a place to live—it’s a true community. The staff are caring and dedicated, the food is always delicious, and there’s a warmth here that makes it feel like home from the moment you walk through the door.
What I enjoy most is the time I spend laughing and sharing stories with the residents. Those moments of joy, connection, and friendship are what make the Blackburn Home so special. A good laugh is good for everyone, and I always leave feeling just as uplifted as the residents.
